Reducing Life’s Pain

EPISODE #3 > Find a worthy Vision. An “inspired” life is less painful than an uninspired existence of just going through the motions.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Prov. 29:18 KJ)

The vision spoken of here is a type of prophetic revelation, an inspired revelation, producing a vision to RUN with. A true inspired vision will give you the desire to run. Now that will help you get out of bed each morning no matter what is going on.

“Then the Lord answered me and said: Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” (Habakkuk 2:2-3)

Life without purpose, meaning, and passion is mostly hollow. We spend our time seeking that next thrill to make us feel alive again, even for just a weekend, so we can go back to a boring workweek with little meaning. However, if we find a real purpose to fight for, we become a person on a mission, like a knight in shinning armor coming to fight the evil dragon and save a people. Or something like that.

The inspired life. When God breathes a word into us, perhaps revealing our calling and the gifts he gave us for that calling, then life takes on so much more meaning. If we have people we truly love, then we want to fight the dragons of this world for them. We seek to provide, protect, and develop them to have a meaningful life also, passing on the torch of having a worthy vision.

But how do we find our worthy vision? We must be honest with this. The danger is we will go on a fools mission and end up totally devastated! A recent news event is a pastor took some “Flat Earthers” to the North Pole, (I think it was.), to prove to them the earth was not flat. It was called “The Final Exploration”. Hard to believe, right? These Flat Earthers were truly convinced the earth was not round. The pastor said he would prove the earth was not flat by showing them the 24 hour sun. If the earth was flat, a 24 hour sun would not be possible.

One of the Flat Earthers by the name of Campanella, after seeing the 24 hour sun, said: “Sometimes you are wrong in life.”

Wow. No one likes admitting when you have been wrong. These people actually went all the way to the north thinking they would be proven right! No one goes to so much trouble to be proven wrong. But sometimes we are wrong. When it comes to the vision of your life, choose wisely. Find something really good. Make the world a better place. It should be so important as to feel it is bigger than you. It is more important than you are. You would seek to do this even if your life was put in danger.

Consider what your natural God-given talents are. What are you naturally good at? What do you enjoy and what do you not? These are likely clues from God as to what your purpose is. For myself, I have always loved studying the Bible. Don’t ask me why. It fascinates me. I see mysteries of the universe hidden there, just waiting to be understood by a person so they can live in a God-connected supernatural way. And then I love teaching these things.

I’ve been involved in ministry my whole life, but I’ve always had this vision of an “old age ministry”. That somehow, in my old age, I would have greater impact and ministry than in my whole life. I told my wife of this many times. I took early retirement to devote myself to the pursuit of it. Now I actually have a published book with the revelations (vision) God has shown me pertaining to our Lord’s Bride! If I only publish one book, I’m so glad it is this one. That’s how strongly I feel about it. (Book: “His Name and His Ring).

That’s only one aspect of how the vision I have is working for me. But what about you? Perhaps you are already living this way but never thought about it. Can you describe the vision that keeps you going? Do you have a mission giving you purpose, passion, and meaning? Is it bigger than you? Is it not just about you, but it benefits others too? You don’t want to be a Campanella. You don’t want to look back on all your effort, discover you were wrong, and wonder how you ever thought that was a worthy vision?

A lot of people were shocked at the recent election results. They honestly thought they were right, but the resounding message from most of the country disagreed. Many of them are still refusing to admit they have been wrong. They are bitter and angry. Lashing out. Still hanging on to lies, and creating more lies! Refusing to see the handwriting on the wall. You can’t feel sorry for these people. Just don’t be one of them. A vision is a dangerous thing when wrongly pursued.

So…this is powerful medicine we play with. Having a true vision. This is strong medicine that can take you to the highest places, or plunge you to the darkest depths. Weigh and balance the worthiness of the vision you may see before you jump in with all your heart. Your giftings will be a part of it, for better or for worse. But don’t shy away from this either.

Do not let fear cause you to do nothing and live a lesser life. You can do this. God designed us to have the ability to do such things. You can discern the good and the bad. You can get it right, if your heart be true and honest. Enjoy the life of a worthy fire burning in your belly. It keeps you warm. It keeps you alive! It keeps life worth living even though there is pain. Let’s have a vision of reducing the earth’s pain by helping the people who live here. All of us.

As I’m pushing 70 now, believe me, pain becomes your constant companion. Especially trying to get out of bed each morning. Your body has taken a beating over the years. It’s just a fact of life. But having a vision is strong medicine to get you for another day, because someone needs you, you’re on a mission, it is important. They are important. It must be done and God has blessed YOU with the opportunity to do it. It is an honor. Live your “thank-you” to God.

At age 69, my favorite thing to do is sharing God’s Word. Whether doing a reading, preaching, or teaching, it keeps the fire burning in my belly.
