A Journey begins.

A new move is afoot, people talking both Religion and Politics! That use to be taboo! And it still is in many churches, but I know it’s out there. It’s just not in my church. I’ve got to find it. I’ve got to be a part of it. And perhaps even start a thing of my own. A Men’s Book Club? Yeah, I know, sounds crazy! Real men don’t read. But it is the calling I’m feeling in my soul. Where do I go to find a people who will embrace such an idea? The search is on!

Where I currently go, I have the impression talking politics is not encouraged. The few times I have mentioned such a thing, voices lower, a couple of comments might be made, and then the subject quickly changes. Perhaps I have read that wrong, and I’m eventually going to find out, but for now the search is on.

There are some churches closer to me I have never visited. I have no idea what they might be into. I think it is time I find out. I have a couple friends going to a very large church in the area. That’s my first place to visit. My friends will be surprised, if I see them that is. This church is so large I believe it has three services. I don’t know what service they go to and I don’t intend to ask. I’d rather surprise them. It will be fun.

So do I have a plan for this Book Club? Yes I do. Of course. Step one is hopefully finding a church already involved in politics and not afraid of it. I visit the first place this Sunday, in just two days. I already went out and bought new shoes and pants. You got to make a good first-impression, especially if you hope to start and lead something. All my clothes had that well-worn look. Nothing wrong with that, but I got to show people I’m serious about this.

Secondly, I’ve already made a short pamphlet detailing the vision. I can easily hand this out to whoever might be curious. It’s simply entitled: “A Faith and Politics Fellowship”, with a subtitle of “A Men’s Coffee, Book, and Fellowship Group”. Our first book will be Xi Van Fleets book, “Mao’s America”. Her book and story is amazing. I can’t imagine a better place to start. I highly recommend it.

Finding the right church is always a little “touchy” for me, because I have a book of my own, “His Name and His Ring”. In my book I share my belief that Jesus also set us free from the Law of Tithing. You cannot prove tithing by the New Covenant. I know they try to say tithing preceded the Law with Abraham, but so did circumcision. I’ve talked to Pastors with biblical doctorate degrees and they have admitted you cannot prove tithing by the New Covenant. So then I ask, what Covenant are we in? I usually get a quiet smile for an answer.

So… the point is…many churches are a little uncomfortable with my book and are afraid I will sow discord. I don’t do that. It’s not a subject I push even though I felt God “insisting” I put it in the book. (I didn’t want to.) I know many of you are also biblical scholars. If you can keep it short, and you think you got a New Testament scripture proving tithing. Please share it. I want the best understanding I can have concerning God’s Word. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. But I can only speak what I believe to be true.

I know this much, the New Testament says the more you give, the more you will be blessed. Why wouldn’t we want as much of that as possible? And we are supposed to be givers, out of joy and love. It is more blessed to give than receive. I believe all that, but I don’t see a 10% law attached to any of it. It is wise to give as much as you can, as much as the Holy Spirit prompts you to. I very much believe in giving. The book of Hebrews is what really opened my eyes to this.

So, step three? Yes, what is step three? Well…I guess starting small. Meeting with one person at a time if need be, when and where they can. I can do this because I am retired. My schedule is open. And keeping it very simple. A coffee shop. My own house. Wherever really. As long as it promotes a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for good fellowship around a very touchy subject, that being politics.

It’s not the religion part that is touchy for me. Because the pamphlet plainly speaks of Christ-like fellowship. Anyone deciding to visit the group will already know the group is mostly Christian. They will be expecting that. It’s the politics part that will be the challenge to discuss in a proper way, respecting all, and freedom to speak. My main goal is to point out the dangers of Communism being embraced by so many today, as a future new world order. They don’t realize Socialism leads to Communism. They are bedfellows. I’m not as concerned about whether it be Republican or Democrat. Is it Communism?! Let the trees lie where they fall!

So the journey begins. I visit the first church this Sunday. I’ll try to keep this Blog site updated as to how it goes. Until then, happy blogging everyone! (And keep me in your prayers!) I want this to be of God, not me. Thank you.

At age 69, my favorite thing to do is sharing God’s Word. Whether doing a reading, preaching, or teaching, it keeps the fire burning in my belly.
