Chosen for Today

Chosen for Today > They say timing is everything. How many weddings had those people been to before they happened to be at “the one”? The one that witnessed our Lord’s very first sign and wonder! Not only did they witness it, but they tasted of it! How many were not chosen to be there that day and were filled with envy when they heard people speaking of it with great enthusiasm? Oh you should have been there! They almost shout, their eyes full of amazement, and possibly even the after glow of drinking that wine! What did it taste like? Did it spoil them for any wine after that?

Yes, this is part two of the last article, “How it all works”. John chapter two is where the event is recorded, and you’ve likely heard it before, but there is always something special about any “first” in God’s word, and this event highly qualifies in that.

First of all, notice it is another wedding story. As one who is constantly preaching about understanding what is hidden in the Bride, and wrote a book on it, I cannot neglect to point that out. Just as details concerning the Rapture speaks of a wedding also. The ten virgins. The call went forth that the “Bridegroom” was coming! And five were not ready.

And so it happens that our Lord’s fist sign was manifested at a wedding. Huh. Interesting. Perhaps even more interesting is He was not planning on any miracles that day. When Mary came to Him, concerned the wedding was running out of wine, Jesus asked what that had to do with Him? And it was not His time! Wow!

So we also see in this first sign, God is showing us that we can move Him! God is showing us He is touched by our feelings, just as Abraham affected Him concerning Sodom and Gomorrah, that He listens to us and desires to answer with a “Yes” whenever possible. But how does it work?

Now you might say, but that was Mary asking Him, His mother! You have a good point there, but what are you? Are you not His child? How much more does God desire to give good things to His children who ask Him? Are you not also the Lord’s Bride? Does not a man leave his mother and father to become one with his wife? Do we not have as much pull as Mary did, if not more? Hhmm. Not sure how a Catholic feels about that.

Oh what it must have been like to be there that day, see and taste of that wine! The timing of it all! You were invited! You showed up! They let you in! And you had no idea such a miracle was about to happen that day. You were chosen.

But here’s the point of the title, scholars believe that event is also PROPHETIC, in that the master of the ceremony said they had saved the best wine for last! Scholars believe this speaks of one last great outpouring of the Holy Spirit that shall be greater than all the rest! And if such a golden age is birthing, God chose us for this time? We will see this miracle and taste of this wine?! Are we ready? Are we dressed for the occasion? Are our water pots full?

See, here’s the thing, “How does it all work?” Well…God does not expect us to turn the water to wine. Stop telling God you can’t do that. He already knows that. But also, stop telling God you’re too busy to fill your pot with water! (Drop mic moment.) Pause and ponder. If you are too busy, then stop it. For your own good, stop it. Don’t be the five foolish virgins.

We complicate everything. We keep grabbing the heavy load and hard yoke. It’s very hard for us to turn water to wine. But I bet everyone of you could grab an empty glass right now and fill it with water, no problem. You just got to take the time and make the effort. That’s how it all works. We are His Bride. He does the heavy lifting. He wants to say yes. If He says no, He has a purpose. Trust Him. A better Yes will come! If you have something called faith, a supernatural substance.

Human nature is that we want a supernatural lifestyle without doing whatever He says. Mary told the servants that day, “Whatever He says, do it!” What are the things God has asked us to do? Love Him? Love others? Take care of your family? Pray? What’s our prayer life like? Is our pot only one tenth full? Give of our financial blessings? Is the pot full yet? Put on your spiritual armor each day? Study your Bible? Be part of a Church family? Live righteously? Is the pot full yet? Are any of these things too hard for us to do?

We will tell ourself it is too hard if we’re too busy, spiritually lazy, foolish, careless, and etc. It’s too hard, Lord! But how hard is all the stuff we are chasing? How hard is all that? God’s ways are no harder, and probably easier really, cause He helps us. And we don’t get all the curses that go with loving this world more than Him. We put heavy burdens and hard yokes on ourself.

We make excuses all day long. We say, I just don’t understand why I don’t feel like I have the victory. God’s promises are not working for me. It’s all too hard! I don’t understand it. It’s too complicated. Over my head. No…it is not. God has kept it intentionally simple for us. He calls us to a simplicity. We make it complicated and then claim we don’t understand. He literally calls us to simplify our lives.

I believe we may well be on the cusp of a golden age. Samson “began” to bring a golden age to Israel. The water to wine was the “beginning” of Jesus signs and miracles. The beginning. From there the torch goes to Samuel. He cleansed the temple from Eli! Jesus cleansed the temple in Jerusalem almost right after the water to wine miracle! It was His next big event! Then Samuel anoints David, who also gives us Solomon.

I believe Samson is currently still in effect. We are still in the “push-back” and “push-upward”. I believe Samuel is a young boy, not yet teenager, in the temple. He is growing just like small groups are growing. I see small groups and tent revivals as God is moving again in His Church! David is coming! And eventually a 1000 Year Millennial Reign. But King Saul hunted David first, because of an evil pride. Saul has killed his thousands but David his ten-thousands! Well, Saul couldn’t allow that to go on, could he? Politics will be a big player in all this, folks. Don’t be fooled.

Oh brother and sister, such a time is upon us if we will do whatever He says, and fill our pot with water. That we can do. That’s all He is asking, what we can do, and the supernatural can be ours. Let us not grow weary in well doing and seem to fall short of entering His REST. He that dwells in the secret place. Be blessed!

At age 69, my favorite thing to do is sharing God’s Word. Whether doing a reading, preaching, or teaching, it keeps the fire burning in my belly.
