Keeping it Simple

Relaxed Christianity continued > I get the impression Phil Robertson did not care if his business became a huge success of not, as long as it helped to keep food on the table and a simple roof overhead, he was happy, happy, happy. And I 100% agree! I think Jesus does too. We put too much on ourselves wanting to have all the stuff, or live up to peer pressure, when Jesus told Martha on that famous day, only ONE thing was BIG, i.e. IMPORTANT. How would that simplify your To-Do List?

I know I heard Phil say more than once, if it had not been for his son, Willie, the business would never have grown to what it did. Phil was happy, happy, happy, either way. I believe Willie was called of God to do what he did. So…it was a passion for him, and he loves it. In the process God brought Phil into a world spotlight to show us God’s simplicity and joy. Some of us find Phil’s life and testimony a powerful inspiration that we are not wrong in staying simple and relaxed, and being happy, happy, happy as we seek our Lord.

There is a “singularity” we can seek, a Oneness, a wholeness that does not happen when we are too divided, distracted, and splintered in many directions chasing the so-called American dream. For some of us, we see that dream as actually a nightmare. We are very much enjoying the peacefulness and REST of our simple ways. Thank-you. You do you, if you want, but I recommend we all try to do Jesus. Father knows best, as they say.

Jesus taught in His Sermon on the Mount that if your eye be “single”, your whole life will be flooded with light, i.e. truth and freedom. (Matt. 6:22) Peter kept his eyes on Jesus and walked on water while in a storm. Isaiah 26:3 says God will keep us in PERFECT PEACE if our mind is stayed upon God. David said, “The ONE thing I ask of the Lord — the thing I seek most — is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.” (Ps. 27:4 NLT) (A SINGULARITY.) Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen that good thing. Evidently, David understood that same powerful way to live. (I cannot help but notice the word, SINGULARITY, starts with the word, SING. Is there a song in your heart? Do you want one?)

So often I find myself shaking my head as I watch people running running running, and worn raged by all the things they want here on earth for 70 or so years, but have very little, if anything, planted and growing for eternity. Their earthly garden flourishes! But their eternal garden is very sparse and scraggly. We sell our heavenly birthright for a pot of earthly beans without ever pausing to think about it. Satan knows he needs to keep you running. He knows if you ever pause long enough to see the truth, you just might get set free.

I learned recently, Genesis 1:1 is actually best translated as : “In a beginning…”

Now that actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it. God can create new beginnings any time He wants to! And, indeed, we see that He does. God’s Word says if I receive Christ, I am born-again into a new beginning! But are there not many ways we can create new beginnings? And as we are made in God’s image, do we not do that very thing in many ways and times?

Singularity and simplicity can be a new beginning for us any time we choose it. We have the power to ask God for new beginnings and ask for His supernatural help in the process. The Bible describes it this way: First we repent of whatever the old thing is we want to change from. This is assuming we’re wanting to IMPROVE something in our life, to do BETTER, spiritual UPGRADE. That is repentance, a realizing we need to do BETTER, having a true remorse for not doing so sooner, and now admitting we need God to help us step up to that new level. In this way we can literally, with the help of God, create a new beginning!

I’ve had many new beginnings. It involves a death to self and greater life towards God. A new surrender. The surrender is a type of death and burial, but then God, through His resurrection power, raises us into a newness of life! He changes our water to His Wine!

A new beginning can be as simple as this. Make yourself a Do-List of all the important goals you have and things you chase. Be honest with yourself. List what you consider to be the BIG things. And be honest about where God ranks in this list, not by what you think and say, but by your actual ACTIONS. Like prayer life, Bible study, giving, good works, etc. etc. What do your ACTIONS reveal, not your words. Now…

Now… do you see anything on that list that you think Jesus would say: “This should be on your list of ‘small stuff’, not BIG.” Now…if you dare to honestly obey our Lord and ask God to help you surrender to His will, just moving an item from our BIG stuff list, to small stuff, can be a new beginning. And according to Jesus, it’s ALL small stuff except for one thing, and that being what David said, in Psalms 27:4.

Can we surrender? We call Him Lord, Master. Can we simplify? Our heavenly Father knows best. Do we trust Him? Can we keep it simple? Enter the SINGULARITY of Christ, a Oneness, and know His peace and fulfillment. It is a marriage!

The Bride of Christ knows what it is to live in the power of her Husband. Amen!

(Just thinking in terms of His Bride, more than being His child, can be a new beginning. It has been for me.)

Happy, happy, happy. Perfect peace be unto you.

At age 69, my favorite thing to do is sharing God’s Word. Whether doing a reading, preaching, or teaching, it keeps the fire burning in my belly.
