Lapdog or Guard Dog?

Lapdog or Guard Dog? I have no desire to be anybody’s lapdog, unless it be the Lord Jesus, Himself. > I fear too many people have become the lapdogs of the devil, himself! Satan loves lapdogs. God loves people like David, who could protect sheep from lions and bears, as well as slay a giant!

God has not called us to be lapdogs. But Satan has. He loves people who stay to his “talking points”, no matter how illogical and untrue they may be. They would not say the king has no clothes no matter how naked he may be! That’s a lapdog. My beagle would have them for a snack between breakfast and lunch!

My beagle really confused and challenged me in the beginning. I never had a beagle before. I didn’t know what to think the first time I called to her and she did not come! But isn’t that a bad thing? That depends. Why did she not come? Because until then, she had when I called. But as she matured something else also grew in her. I learned some dogs, and some beagles, not all, have a very strong “prey instinct” in them, and if they do, it’s there to stay!

My beagle has escaped many times in her effort to seek prey. Her nose tells her the prey is afoot! She escaped in the Smokey Mountains once, gone for almost three hours. A strange territory for her. I looked everywhere I could, but after I gave up she somehow found her way back to my car! She was bouncing at the door with a big smile on her face, and seemed to be asking if I missed her?

She’s come back with dead birds, dead rabbits, and squirrels. She’s chased deer before! She tried to tackle a coon! She probably saved me from a mauling on that one. The coon was hidden in our hayloft and I did not know. I was about to unknowingly uncover the thing! It was a big one! But my beagle kept barking and diving at an old tire leaning against the barn wall. I decided to carefully peak behind the tire, expecting a mouse, but discovered a coon! She was still a puppy at that time!

You know the saying of it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog! She has a prey instinct. I am surrounded by fields and woods. As well as housing developments. But our fields have coyotes! We hear them at night. We’ve seen them. My beagle managed an escape at about midnight once. She didn’t come back in till three a.m.! She survived it all.

She is not afraid to let her presence and opinion known. Have you ever heard a beagle howl? They have like two levels of barks. She has her growl. Then she has her bark. Then if she gets excited enough, she has her howl! Oh my! She is not shy! How does all that sound come from such a small dog?

And although she is a great lapdog when in the house and wants to cuddle, just let something happen she does not like and she very quickly turns into a complete guard dog! Hunter! And protector! Burglar alarm! And I am glad she has that in her. like I said, she probably saved me from a coon, and I know if she ever got lost, she’s probably tough enough to survive. Even in extreme cold! She’s done that too. One tough dog. Not a sissy.

But why am I saying all this? David was a man. David was a man after God’s own heart. God wants His men to be men. He wants us to have a fight in us. But He wants that fight directed at the real enemy! Not our fellow mankind, but against evil, lawlessness, principalities of the air, and Satan, himself.

The Bride of the Lamb is not a lapdog. She is warrior born! God gave her a Sword! And armor! And we have been looking at how God desires to turn our water into His wine. As the Bride of the Lamb, we are the Bride of a certain prophecy spoken of about Judah. Consider this >

“Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; Your hands shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father’s children shall bow down before you. Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; and as a lion, who shall rouse him? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to him shall be the obedience of the people. Binding his donkey to the vine, and his donkey’s colt to the choice vine, He washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes. His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.” (Genesis 49:8-12)

This is the Groom whom the Bride is love-drunk upon. In Revelation chapter 19 is the description of our Lord that in some ways makes these words appear weak! And the armies of heaven follow Him! Let us not be entangled in the things of this world, that we might be true warriors of the Lord God Most High.

This is a Samson time. This is a push-back time! We need Samuel to come! And then Samuel anoints David! And the head of King Saul ends up in a Dagon temple! Let those who have ears to hear and eyes to see understand what it all means and teach many! Rise up Church of God! Be the lioness standing with her Husband the Lion of Judah! Arise shine! This time has come!

It’s hard for lapdogs to hide. They are revealed very quickly. They conform to the popular opinion, the status quo, the powers that be, rather than roar against the evil of our time. Samson had his flaws for sure, but he was no lapdog. Or was he? The lap of Delilah? And look where that got him! Learn from his mistake!

In the end he got his godly mojo back, and it is said Delilah also died in that arena the day it came crashing down. Because Samson dared to pray a prayer and press with all his might against those pillars, he shook off the lapdog mantle! Keep on pressing, people of God! That too is how wine is made! In a press! A mighty fine wine! Amen!

  1. LOL! We have a beagle, terrier, mutt, critter. He’s not a lapdog either. Dogs have a lot to teach us about being human. Three cheers for Godly mojo. We all need to cultivate more of that.

At age 69, my favorite thing to do is sharing God’s Word. Whether doing a reading, preaching, or teaching, it keeps the fire burning in my belly.
