The Prayer Closet. > It is impossible to speak of the Armor of God without the prayer closet!
“Pray in the Spirit at all times on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” (Ephesians 6:18 NLT) These are the instructions given pertaining to our Armor.
Think about it. God spoke of prayer as part of putting on His supernatural armor. In our physical life we look for a private place to get dressed. It is also a picture of the spiritual! God hangs our Armor of Light in the Prayer Closet and tells us to dress in His sacred garb every day, His favor about us as a shield. Jesus told us to go into a private place to pray. In that process we are also getting dressed! In the prayer closet!
“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 6:6)
Go into your special place…sanctuary…shut the door…pray to your Father…get dressed!
Psalms 91 > “He who dwells in the secret place, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
If there is anything more powerful than the Helmet of Salvation, I guess it would be the process of how you put it on. Alone! In a private place away from all this world’s buzz! We force ourself to wait! Pray! Slow down and wait upon the Lord so we can mount up with the wings of the eagle! It’s all connected! Be the Sailboat! Not the Rowboat or Motorboat.
It’s so hard, isn’t it. The rush of each day. It’s so tempting to just rush out into it, anxious to prove our love for God! And yet, in so doing, we have just proven we don’t really love or understand His ways, have we not? We have proven ourself the Motorboat, not the Sailboat. Not a lover of Wind and Waves, but a lover of manmade ways. We are the foolish who run out naked onto the battlefield thinking we are doing great things for God. No, we are dead! Captured! Entangled! Jesus said, Be not deceived.
We do not practice the wisdom and knowledge God has given us. We violate the spiritual design God has revealed to us. We have the knowledge, but fail to ENGAGE. Now we’re out there stroking those oars as hard as we can, trying to be strong in the Lord. Only problem is, the Lord is still waiting for us back in the prayer closet. Our sacred Armor, empowered by the Anointing and Spirit of God, is still hanging in the prayer closet. The great things we are doing for God, could be so much greater! If only…? We know the answer, but fail to ENGAGE.
God is upping our game. The time has come. We crossed the line. The shofars have sounded to inform us. Awake us. Enlighten us. There is an inspiration blowing in the earth lighting a fire to become Black Belt Christianity! We no longer are satisfied with the white belt that shows dirt so easily. We’re ready to enter the FIRE of real training, real disciplines, and show the world the real Jesus Christ, the real Kingdom of God! We’ve been weak for lack of devotion. We no longer want to be just the child of God, but His Bride! We know our Lord as our Lamb, who shed His blood for me. But now we must know Him as the Lion of Judah! God is calling us to ROAR! That comes from our mouth! Again, we see the Helmet of Salvation!
This only recently came to me. The Helmet of Salvation is not only about protecting our mind, but it also covers our mouth, ears, and eyes! If we want to “hear” the voice of our Lord and be led of the Spirit, we need that Helmet! If we want to see like Elisha saw, we need that Helmet! If we want to speak like John the Baptist spoke, we need that Helmet! Our Sword of the Spirit comes out of our mouth! Do we have no Sword if we neglect the Helmet? No hearing? No sight? We are blind, deaf, and misled? Most likely. We need to be dressed in our priestly sacred garb!
First thing I do every day is get dressed. I have too, I don’t wear pajamas. But all you pajama wearing folks, enjoying your comfort zone, best you get dressed! The pajamas are for when the work is done and the battle won. Don’t let the Lord return and find you in pajamas! And just like Paul said to the Church of Corinth…
Paul said he could not feed them the meat of the Word, because they could only handle milk, like babies. (1st Cor. 3:2) A white belt Christian lives on white milk and has little ability for the fight. Those who take up the Armor to follow Jesus are fighting to protect them, buying them time to grow up and become a true warrior of the Word! Skilled in spiritual survival and the saving of others. God humbles us to the need of prayer before He empowers us with weapons no fool should handle!
Weapons are for warriors, not children. Warriors are dependable. They know the meaning of self-discipline. They have developed the strength to do hard things. They have battle skills and a knowledge of the enemy. I’ll never forget when I went through basic training for the Army, at Fort Jackson, on Tank Hill. They took us out for 24 hours of war games. They had been running us hard for days and now planned to run us even harder. They succeeded.
That night we were to dig fox holes to sleep in, but we also had a flag to guard. We were paired up with another soldier to be our battle buddy. One was to sleep like two hours while the other kept watch. It was dark. It was cold. I remember how hard it was to wake up for my last shift of watch, but of course I did. Others were depending on me. At the time I happened to be my squad leader.
As I had my M16 in hand, and my buddy fell hard to sleep, and all was very quiet, I was bothered by a nagging feeling that all my guys were sleeping. No one watching! (Except me.) They were spread out in fox holes and I could not see them. Something made me decide to take the risk and belly crawl to the next hole. If they saw someone coming in the dark, they might sound the alarm. I might be making a mistake in doing this. I decided to take the chance. Sadly, I discovered there was little risk of an alarm.
As I made my way to the first hole, no alarms were sounding. I reached the first hole and sure enough, both sound asleep. I used the muzzle of my M16 and poked them hard in the ribs to wake up. They woke up staring down the barrel of the M16. In a real fight, they would have been dead. The look of shock on their faces were priceless.
All three of the fox holes I managed to get to were the same. It made me angry to think I had worked hard all night to do the hard thing and do my part. But these guys were taking advantage of a chance to be lazy, foolish, and weak. The enemy could have flooded into our area and I likely would have been overwhelmed and killed with them. Yes, it still makes me angry to think about it. That’s why I poked them as hard as I did. They needed a little shock, fear, and pain! But did it change them? I have no way to know. It was a teachable moment, but did they learn? Did they change?
I have to believe if we get serious about our sacred garbs hanging in the prayer closet, there is still time to be ready for the spiritual and physical STORM that is so very near now. We’re no longer in bootcamp. It’s no longer “training” in a war “game”. The REAL is on the horizon. If we neglect this last chance to be READY, it will not be our squad leader poking us with an M16 that has no real bullets. It will be the REAL enemy, who wants us dead! They hate us. They hate us with a demonic hate that desires to torture and kill. be wise as serpents. Harmless as doves.
Our enemy, the dragon, wants to take us out before we get into our sacred Priestly garbs. He knows that when we enter that prayer closet and come out properly dressed for war, he is powerless! Every move he makes only ends up working to our good! How frustrating that must be for him. So he is forced to move on, seeking who he “may” devour. My fox hole was awake and alert. I was ready to give the enemy a proper greeting if he showed up.
A private and quiet place to get alone with God, and get dressed. That place can be many things. It might be a spot in the woods. In the old days, it could be a phone booth! (If you know what I mean.) Or a tricked out minivan like mine, that I call my War Wagon. I also have a room in the house, but recently, God moved me mostly into my van which currently has a flat tire. This war wagon has not left this property in months. But I have been working on it, changed the inside quite a lot, and my spirit filled bones tell me it will be rolling soon! Can these bones live?
So…be strong in the Lord, and the power of His might, not your own. Be the Sailboat, in love with the Wind from Heaven. Let the Motorboats and Rowboats do what they will. Don’t worry about them. This world was designed by God for Sailboats! The fix is in! If you know the design and respect it, you win! The enemy can’t take your flag! Your Lord will say, “Well done!”
But if we show up in that unskilled dirty old white belt, still sucking on the teat? Or in pajamas? And you’ve been in the Lord for how long? Please…don’t come jumping in my fox hole, okay? I need someone who stays awake and alert. Someone who is not going to die on me, because they are dressed in God’s Armor! Amen. Be inspired! Be faithful to God’s prayer closet. Find your Kingdom Horse and RIDE!
This site still doesn’t seem to get much notice. If you think these messages are worth reading, please tell others of the site. I’ll keep writing even if there is only ONE. But we’re in such a time of the need for the knowledge of God! Not just milk, but MEAT! Thank you.
